Father-

Catholic laity – both men and women – are far more damaged by the current crisis in our Church than our ministers realize or are responding to.
Unlike 2002, when we first confronted a Church that was propagating sexual abuse, now we are also staggering under the revelation of episcopal corruption possibly extending all the way up through the Vatican Curia at the highest levels. We were promised meaningful reform, and instead we received conspiracy and damning silence. We remain grateful for priests and bishops of legitimate goodwill, but need you more than ever to translate that goodwill into concrete, challenging action.
As the baptized common priesthood of the Church, the laity need you to equip us not just with sustaining sacraments, but with the resources we need to replace what’s broken in the Church with something that will survive.
I would call to your attention three important actions we are taking to exercise our common priesthood for the purification of the Church. I implore you please to propagate them through the [NAME OF PARISH] community in every channel available to you: homily, bulletin, newsletter, website, and social media.
  • The Siena Project (https://www.thesienaproject.org/) – A Mission Statement and letter templates that make it easy for any member of the Catholic faithful to send letters urging our bishops to enact meaningful reforms in light of recent revelations of grievous abuses in the Catholic Church
  • Letter to Pope Francis from Catholic Women (https://catholicwomensforum.org/letter-to-pope-francis/) – With nearly 40,000 signatures today, this letter reflects the personal initiative of the individual Catholic women signing it, and is not sponsored by any group or organization
  • Letter to Pope Francis from Catholic Men (https://catholicmenunited.org/) – With nearly 7,000 signature today, this letter reflects the personal initiative of the individual Catholic men signing it. Professional affiliations are listed for identification purposes only. It is not sponsored by any group or organization. Signers are encouraged to engage traditional fasts involving food and/or drink, but the exact nature of each signer’s fast is a matter of individual discretion. Signers are encouraged to undertake a difficult but not overly burdensome fast

Please examine these resources, and use your ministry to equip the people of God for the work he needs us to do.

Your angry and obedient servant-
